Wickersley: Passenger, 20, dies after being injured in two-vehicle collision in Rotherham suburb

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

An investigation has been launched, following a two-vehicle collision in a Rotherham suburb which has cost a 20-year-old passenger his life.

The crash took place at Morthern Road, at the junction with Moat Lane, in Wickersley, Rotherham yesterday afternoon (Sunday, June 2, 2024), with police being called in connection with the incident at 4.08pm.

Speaking a few moments ago, a South Yorkshire Police (SYP) spokesperson confirmed that a 20-year-old man has sadly died, after being injured in the collision.

The identity of the man killed in the collision is not yet known.

Appealing for witnesses and information, the SYP spokesperson continued: “It is reported that a silver Land Rover Discovery and silver Subaru Forester were involved in a collision and left the road.

“A 20-year-old man who was a passenger in the Land Rover sadly died at the scene.

“His family has been informed and is being supported by officers.

“Following the collision, the driver and three passengers of the Subaru Forester fled from the scene on foot.

“A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody. “We are now asking for any witnesses to the collision or any motorists in the area around the time of the incident with dashcam footage to come forward.”
