Ms Burgin was taken to hospital following the crash, but sadly died the following day.

A second individual, Callum Harry Garner, was also seriously injured in the crash.

The Recorder of Sheffield, Judge Jeremy Richardson KC, released Roberts on bail, but told him to prepare to be sent to prison when he is sentenced next month.

“You’ve pleaded guilty to two very serious charges. It is inevitable that when I come to pass upon you in this difficult case that you will be sent to prison. The issue for me to decide...is how long that sentence of imprisonment will have to be,” said Judge Richardson.

He continued: “These cases are exceptionally difficult. This is not a case of murder, it is not case of manslaughter, but it is, notwithstanding, a very serious matter because of the consequences of your very bad driving.”

Discussing whether or not an interim driving disqualification should be imposed now, Roberts’ barrister Ian Goldsack said his client was prepared for a ban, but said he works as an electrician and is regularly required to drive his work vehicle.

Prosecutor, Ben Campbell said the knowledge that Roberts is continuing to drive after the fatal crash is causing distress to those affected by the collision, and referred Judge Richardson to the victim personal statements submitted to the court.

Judge Richardson told Roberts an interim disqualification ‘must’ be imposed now, and ordered for it to be imposed at the conclusion of the brief, 10 minute hearing.
