Sheffield Wednesday agree deal to sell midfielder Svante Ingelsson as summer rebuild continues
Sheffield Wednesday are poised to sell midfielder Svante Ingelsson ahead of the 2026/27 League One season.
Sheffield Wednesday have agreed a deal with Stoke City to sell influential midfielder Svante Ingelsson.
The Star, several weeks ago, revealed the bet365 Stadium outfit had expressed heavy interest in the Swede, who scooped the Owls’ Player of the Season award last season. Ingelsson was one a crop of players out-of-contract at Hillsborough this summer, but Wednesday recently triggered a one-year option to tie him down and protect his value ahead of the transfer window opening.
As a result of that clause being activated it means he will not leave Hillsborough on a free transfer. The Star understands he will move to Stoke in a deal that could exceed £1million.
It is understood the midfielder, who joined Wednesday from German outfit Hansa Rostock two years ago, has agreed personal terms with the Potters.
The midfielder, who scored one goal for the Owls last term, netting the opener in Boxing Day’s 2-2 draw with Hull City at Hillsborough, held talks with Wednesday sporting director Simon Wilson over the last few days after returning from Sweden. It is understood he expressed an interest in a move back to the Championship.
Wednesday wanted to secure clarity on Ingelsson’s future as quickly as possible, meaning they can press on with their summer rebuild. Wednesday need new bodies all over the pitch this summer after their squad was butchered a year ago.
Ingelsson, 28, was a figure of consistency for Wednesday last season, regularly earning praise from manager Henrik Pedersen. His never-say-die attitude and energy levels were constantly impressive.
Unfortunately for him and Wednesday, he missed the final four games of the season because of a knee injury that required surgery. He has made a total of 79 appearances for the Owls, scoring two goals - both of which were plundered on Boxing Day in successive seasons.
