Sheffield Wednesday are rapidly closing in on their third signing of the summer, The Star understands, with a medical booked for today.

The Owls have confirmed the signings of free agent pair Ben Hamer and Max Lowe, who will join the club from Watford and Sheffield United respectively at the end of the month. And now a permanent deal for Tunisia international Yan Valery looks set to complete as the 25-year-old heads to S6 for a medical.

It was revealed last week by The Star that Wednesday had come to an agreement with French club Angers with regard to a fee for Valery, who worked with Owls boss Danny Röhl previously during their time together at Southampton. European big boys Montpellier and Standard Liege were understood to have been keen to add Valery to their squad, with talks had over a potential deal.

The France-born defender made clear he preferred a move back to England, with Röhl believed to have been a major driver in his desire to sign for Wednesday. A versatile player most commonly used as an attack-minded right-back, he will add strength to the Owls flanks having claimed five assists in Angers’ successful Ligue 2 promotion campaign last time out.

The Owls’ transfer activity is expected to continue apace into the coming weeks. Röhl has warned that the market is proving tough at this early stage of the summer but that the club have identified a list of ‘good players’ heading into the height of the summer window. Wednesday’s preference would be to get the bulk of their incoming deals done sooner rather than later, with their German boss having spoken about the need to grow team cohesion and allow for a full pre-season programme with his squad.
