The future of Sheffield Wednesday’s award-winning midfielder, Will Vaulks, is hanging in the balance.

Vaulks played a huge part in the Owls’ great escape last season, featuring 34 times over the course of the campaign – for three different managers – and went on to be voted as the fans’ Player of the Season. He was also won the English Football League’s Player in the Community award for 2024.

It was confirmed last month that the 30-year-old was one of seven players to be offered a new deal at Hillsborough as his current contract comes to an end, however The Star understands that while talks are ongoing, the involved parties aren’t close to an agreement as things stand.

The player is believed to be eager to stick around and add to his 91 appearances in Wednesday colours after helping them to dramatic promotion and safety campaigns in his two years at the club – however there is tempting interest from elsewhere should the Owls not do enough to secure his future at Hillsborough.

‘Vaulksy’ has played 34+ times every season over the course of the last decade at four different clubs, and has brought a wealth of experience to the club at points when they’ve needed it.

Of the seven players offered new deals by the Owls so far only captain, Barry Bannan, and Liam Palmer have signed on the dotted line, but fans will be hoping to see that change in the coming weeks as Danny Röhl looks to try and finalise the core of his squad well in advance of their return for preseason.
