Sheffield United: Duo on course to return after the World Cup break

Although he told reporters ahead of tomorrow’s match at Cardiff City that Lowe has “more chance” than his team mate of being declared available for selection when Huddersfield Town visit Bramall Lane on December 10, Heckingbottom believes a trouble free period on the training ground could also see Bogle’s name removed from what is a debilitating casualty list.

Speaking ahead of United’s final outing before the Championship shuts down for a month to accommodate the tournament in Qatar, Heckingbottom said: “Lowey and Jayden, providing nothing goes wrong which we’re obviously hoping it doesn’t, they should be back (for Huddersfield). Lowey is a bit further ahead of Jayden, he’s a bit more in front. But they’re both doing well. The key now is when they step things up.”

Lowe has not featured for United since September, when he injured a hamstring during a win over Hull City. Bogle played only twice after receiving the all-clear following a knee operation before it emerged, soon after October’s clash with Queens Park Rangers, that a piece of metal inserted during the procedure was causing him discomfort.

Sander Berge and Ismaila Coulibaly are also making progress in their respective fitness battles, although Heckingbottom shied away from predicting they will face Huddersfield. Rhian Brewster and Rhys Norrington-Davies, whose hamstring complaint cost him a place in Wales’ World Cup squad, will not return until next year.

“Sander and Izzy Coulibaly are at that point too,” Heckingbottom said. “Brewster and Norrington-Davies won’t be back until well after.”
