All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship rivals.

Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United are already preparing for next season with many clubs up and down the country returning for pre-season testing this week. The Owls made a strong start to the summer transfer window, and the Blades now look like they might catch up amid talk of new signings this week.

Chris Wilder knows exits will be required before making significant signings, but free captures remain on the cards, something Wednesday have already taken advantage of. In the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest news surrounding the other Championship clubs.

Idah to Celtic latest

Celtic continue to chase Norwich City star Adam Idah after his loan spell with the club, but the deal is not expected to move forward just yet. Hoops chief John Kennedy told Sky Sports: "I think there's a lot of conversations happening. It's a time when a lot of players have been on holiday and different things have been happening.

"A lot of conversations have been taking place. We come back for pre-season and hopefully in the coming weeks a few things will start to happen but there's a lot of plates spinning and a lot of work getting done. Hopefully we'll start to see that materialise over the coming weeks."

Meanwhile, new Norwich boss Johannes Hoff Thorup has promised to take a look at Idah before making any decisions on the forward and his future. “He's an exciting player,” Thorup said last week. “And he's from here, and he's been in the club so many years and can do dangerous stuff up front. He's fast, he moves well, he gets into these areas in the box where you decide games. So, definitely, I will have a look at him, I think otherwise it will be stupid.”

Leeds chase Arias

Leeds United are being linked with a move for Fluminense star Jhon Arias as they prepare to potentially lose a star winger or two this summer. In the meantime, Fluminense chief Mario Bittencourt told Noticias Caracol: “We are in a situation in which they can leave or not.

“So I have to evaluate whether I am looking for a player who can leave or not. This is imagining a possible exit. We are always looking at the market.” It’s claimed Leeds have offered as much as £12.7million to sign Arias this summer.

Begovic departs QPR

Elsewhere in the Championship, QPR have failed to agree terms with veteran goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, who will now depart the club as a free agent. The former Chelsea goalkeeper spent one season with the R’s, helping them dodge the drop and racking up 46 appearances. It’s unclear whether Begovic will continue his career at the age of 37, but he shouldn’t have too much trouble finding a new club if he does.

QPR CEO Christian Nourry said in a statement: “On behalf of the wider football club I want to offer my deep thanks to Asmir for all of his contributions. His outstanding leadership qualities helped the group immeasurably when times were toughest. I have immense respect for Asmir the man and the professional, and wish him nothing but the best for his future endeavours.”
