Love Island is back on the TV, and Sheffield hunk Sam has coupled up

Hunky Sheffield hairdresser Sam Taylor has paired up in his first couple, after arriving on the TV show Love Island.

Sam, aged 23, who works at the Salon 60 hairdressers in Lodge Moor, arrived at the Love Island villa for the first time, and among the first things that have been done in the show is to match contestants up in pairs.

They were paired up on the basis of how they were ranked by fellow contestants in terms of relationship material, in the first episode of the new series.

The popular ITV dating series returned yesterday, introducing more contestants to the villa, with host Maya Jama making an entrance in a white frock.

She told the residents: "First impressions count. Boys and girls, I now want you to rate each other in order of who you think has come across the most like boyfriend and girlfriend material, right down to who has given the least relationship vibes."

Jama then revealed the rankings would mean who they were paired with.

And Sam was paired up with Samantha Kenny, a make-up artist from Liverpool,

Samantha, 26, is said to be outgoing, confident, naturally funny and glam. She likes career-driven men who are loyal and have a good sense of humour.

Handily, pals of Sheffield’s Sam say they love his funny stories.

Friends who work near Sam on the same parade of shops on Rochester Road, Lodge Moor, have said they will be watching him on the show, and it is understood his colleagues at Salon 60 will too.

Speaking to producers ahead of his stay in the Love Island villa, Sam said he had been "single for six months" but despite enjoying the single life, the self-described "flirt and spontaneous type" admitted to missing "having that one person."

"I am a big flirt and I do have a reputation going out with my clients," He added: "I love brunettes and I do go for blondes, but my speciality is colour correction so I can change them!

"I do miss having that one person. In my old relationships, they got free hair cuts.

“I think I'll thrive in the villa, but if all fails at least I can just offer them a blow dry."

Maya Jama is hosting the 11th series of Love Island which started on Monday at 9pm on ITV, ITV2, ITVX and STV.

The last series attracted over three million viewers across all devices and the Love Island final was the most watched programme for 16-34s on any channel. The series garnered 1.4 billion video views across all platforms and 56+ million likes on official Love Island content.
