It may have been a poor afternoon for the senior team on Saturday but there was some semblance cheer for Sheffield Wednesday fans earlier in the day.

While Wednesday lost 2-1 to Ipswich Town after a poor display at Hillsborough, across town a few hours previous George Hirst was continuing his rise to prominence with a stunning brace to help see off Steel City rivals Sheffield United.

Wednesday's under 18s won 2-0 at Shirecliffe thanks to two cracking goals from the England under 18 international.

The first was a cracking shot from the edge of the box which flew into the top corner of the net and the second added the finishing touches to a superb move in which Hirst back-heeled the ball into the path of Jordan Lonchar and then fired in the return pass from six yards.

Not a bad way to win a derby, whatever the level.
