Barnsley Council bosses have sent out new polling cards for the upcoming general elections to residents who were sent cards telling them to vote at the wrong polling station.

Around 2,700 residents in Darfield were sent polling cards, instructing them to vote at Billingley Village Hall – around two miles away.

Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council says there was an error with printing software, and that replacement cards are now being sent out.

Sarah Norman, chief executive and returning officer for Barnsley Council, said: “We have sent out replacement poll cards for the general election to around 2,700 people in the Darfield area. These replacement cards now show the correct polling station details.

“The incorrect polling station details were printed on the original poll cards following an error with printing software.

“This will not affect your ability to vote. You can give the staff inside the polling station your name and address, and they will check it against the electoral register.”
