Polls are predicting a Labour gain in Rother Valley in next week’s general election – with Reform coming second, ahead of most-recent MP Alexander Stafford.

Polling suggests that Labour’s Jake Richards will win the seat with just over 40 per cent of the vote.

However, the constituency’s last MP, Conservative Alexander Stafford, has been taken over in the polls by Reform’s Tony Harrison.

Mr Stafford was elected to represent Rother Valley in 2019, and formed part of what was dubbed the Red Wall – a string of traditional Labour stronghold seats across the north won by Conservatives.

Mr Stafford was one of many Tory MPs to be the first ever Conservative representative in an area’s history, with a majority of more than 6,000 votes.

Reform is standing candidates in almost all seats in Great Britain, and is posing a challenge to the Conservatives.

In its iteration as the Brexit party, Reform fielded 277 candidates in 2019, and this year, are fielding 609.

As many as one in three voters who voted for a Conservative candidate in 2019 are turning to Reform according to some polls.

Jake Richards, a barrister specialising in child protection law, is one of 425 Labour candidates tipped to form the next government, according to YouGov.

In any case, the residents of Rother Valley will find out who their MP is this time next week – and Britain may be waking up to a new government.
