Rotherham murder: Update on police investigation after bloodstains seen on car bonnet

A murder investigation is ongoing after an “altercation” in Rotherham led to an unknown man losing his life.

Officers were called to Drummond Street at 12.18am on Tuesday (June 18) after reports of disturbance among a group of men in a car park.

When emergency services arrived, a man was found seriously injured.

He was taken to hospital, but sadly pronounced dead on Tuesday morning.

Four people were arrested on suspicion of murder: a 36-year-old woman and three men, aged 37, 26 and 45.

A police cordon was put in place around the car park at the corner of Drummond Street and Nottingham Street, and remains there today (June 19).

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police has said a second police scene is in place, just over half a mile away at Eastwood Park.

One man told The Star how he returned home in the early hours to find the car park near his flat taped off, before an air ambulance landed and removed a casualty.

He said groups of young men often congregate on the car park at night to chat but “never normally” cause trouble.

South Yorkshire Police has confirmed that the four people arrested are still in police custody, but have not been charged.

The victim is yet to be formally identified.

Detective Chief Inspector Ben Wood, the senior investigating officer, said: "We understand news of this murder investigation will cause distress to the local community.
