National Picnic Week is taking place from June 17 to 25, and while we may be still waiting for the summer weather to hit us, we can still plan for those moments of sunshine.
This year, the week falls in line with the Summer Solstice on June 20, providing a perfect opportunity to enjoy the longest day of the year outdoors.
I think most of us can agree that a picnic sounds wonderful: an array of delicious food and drink, great company, funky tunes, and the smell of luscious grass under the sun. But the reality can often fall short of expectations, with swarms of wasps, poorly planned food, no public toilets, and forgetting the picnic blanket.
To help you plan for the perfect picnic, we have listed a number of places among the acres and acres of gorgeous green spaces we have available to us in Sheffield. We’ve tried to include several with local amenities nearby to make it easier for when life gets too busy to plan ahead.
Here are nine places you can consider for your next gathering with friends and family when the sun comes out.

5. Chelsea Park
Chelsea Park in Nether Edge, is a small and peaceful park with plenty of room for people wanting to picnic. It has a safe playground for children, and is a very tranquil setting in the city. This park doesn't have public toilets though.Photo: -
6. Manor Fields Park
Manor Fields Park, in Manor Top, is a wonderful green space, with a playground, streams, fields and fabulous views of the city. This Green Flag Award-winning park a brilliant place to go for a picnic, and has the benefit of shops nearby. You can also visit Manor Castle, which dates back to 1516.Photo: -
7. Meersbrook Park
Meersbrook Park, on Chesterfield Road, in Meersbrook, has expansive green spaces, and fabulous views. If you're hoping to get active while you're out, Meersbrook Park also features a multi-purpose sports cage. It is often busy with families, children, couples and dogs. 8. Graves Park
Graves Park, in Woodseats, is huge - it contains two playgrounds, sports facilities, natural beauty and local cafes in the area. You can also visit the animal park. What more could you want?Photo: -
