Pubs company bosses have outlined their plans for a popular Sheffield pub, which has been closed for months.

The Three Merry Lads, near Lodge Moor, was repossessed by the company which owns it back in April, with concerns over its future.

Re-possession notices were posted in its windows, and the car park was sealed off with large orange barriers to prevent vehicles accessing its premises.

But now, the company which owns the venue on Redmires Road, Star Pubs, has confirmed what it hopes to do with the site, which dates back to Georgian times and is one of the city’s oldest pubs.

Star Pubs outlined the plans, which would see it re-open again as a pub, in a statement to The Star.

The statement said: “The Three Merry Lads is a popular pub and we are committed to reopening it as soon as possible. To that end we are working hard to recruit a new licensee.

“We have interest in the pub and as soon as a new operator is appointed we will be happy to confirm reopening plans and timings.”

A review in The Star last year described the Three Merry Lads as having long been a favourite with Sheffield walkers and people out with their families.

It added: “You can enjoy a pint and a meal looking out over amazing views, sitting inside or out.

“There’s plenty of room at outside tables on their terrace or grassed area, where there are a few pieces of play equipment for little ones.”

Dating back to 1836 The Three Merry Lads is said to have got its name from the Marsden family who named the pub after their sons.

It is one of two well known pubs sitting high up on Redmires Road on the way out to the Redmires dams.

The other, The Sportsman, recently re-opened after a period of closure following the death of its former landlady.
