Three years ago The Leadmill club in Sheffield set about ripping up its dancefloor and installing a shiny new replacement after the old one began looking tired from more than 30 years of gigs and parties.
Since then the venue has been selling segments of the old floor, engraved with well-known song lyrics or the Leadmill logo, to fans – and now the place is down to the last few blocks, which are available to buy for £10 to £15.

“We've amassed a collection of battered and bruised sections that we didn't think were nice enough to engrave on to but rather than them go to waste we're offering them at a massively reduced price as blank pieces.
“Expect 30 years of abuse, scratches, nails, paint splatters, holes and chips – not the potato kind, although there probably was at some point. Once these are gone, that's it, there'll be no more.”
The floor had a colourful existence.
“It had some of the world’s biggest bands walk across it, had millions of people bounce up and down on it and has had people have the best nights of their lives on it.

The Leadmill – which hosted early shows by Pulp, Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes and Coldplay – was meant to be spending this year marking its 40th anniversary. Instead its doors have been shut since March because of the Covid-19 pandemic – tickets can be bought for a three-night reopening weekender which will be held when it is safe to do so.
Meanwhile more than £24,000 has been raised for the club through the Music Venue Trust’s #saveourvenues campaign, which is set to be boosted further as Arctic Monkeys are raffling off a black Fender guitar used by frontman Alex Turner in many of the band's first performances. Parts of the old dancefloor were previously turned into another guitar that was signed by all four members of the Sheffield group and raised £7,200.
