Some venues remain closed to bands but a few, featured here, are pioneering a return to live music – although who you can go with is still restricted, as are audience numbers, and you’ll have to stay in your seat. It will still be wonderful, though, and we hope performers and venues will be able to get some support from customers at long last.

3. Toyah at Greystones!
Music pub The Greystones isn't opening up its intimate Backroom for gigs just yet. It looks like first on will be a big name, Toyah Wilcox, who's presenting an 'acoustic, up front and personal' show on June 24. Book at https://www.wegottickets.com/event/498801#tickets Photo: Submitted
4. Jazz journey
The volunteer team at Sheffield Jazz have had a heart-wrenching 12 months at their main venue, Crookes Social Club - it looked like they could put on gigs last year, then lockdown ruined their carefully put-together plans. Fingers crossed that the innovative Ant Law Quintet get to appear in Crookes on June 4. Bookings: https://www.sheffieldjazz.org.uk/ Photo: Sheffield Jazz
