AS they get their feet under the council table the LibDem administration is busy trying to fulfil its pledges.
The Wisewood-Myers Grove merger debate is a thorny one, but the plight of Ecclesall children unable to get places at their local infant school seems simpler - or is it?

Next week's council cabinet meeting will look at a range of options. Expand th
e school by creating another class, and three years down the line another problem will be passed on to Ecclesall Juniors

Ideally they could merge three l schools, creating a new primary - but that could cost £7 million.

Options, priorities, costings, decisions - isn't Ecclesall is a microcosm of what being in power is all about?

Big Brother won't be wearing a cap!

A BAN on flat caps? In Yorkshire?
It hardly bears thinking about.

But that's what's happening in one pub in Sheffield - and it's not alone.

The wearers of traditional tweed cap are generally no threat and their banning is an over-reaction to problems caused by wearers of baseball caps.

What happened to common sense?

How can it be sensible for a 67-year-old man to have to take off his cap because an 18-year-old can hide his face from CCTV with a baseball cap?

Generally we think CCTV cameras are a necessary tool in the fight against crime, but this is a step too far.

Whether we are living in a Big Brother state is for others to decide.

If Big Brother goes into the Park Hotel, he won't be wearing a cap!

Track to the future
DIRE warnings from rail bosses that passengers will have to endure disruptions to weekend services for years .

They say it will be at least 2014 before engineering work will be completed and a full seven-day service is restored. So they can tell us what's going to be happening in half a decade's time... it's a pity they can't explain why the train due in the next half hour is missing!
