But that's what's happening in one pub in Sheffield - and it's not alone.
The wearers of traditional tweed cap are generally no threat and their banning is an over-reaction to problems caused by wearers of baseball caps.
What happened to common sense?
How can it be sensible for a 67-year-old man to have to take off his cap because an 18-year-old can hide his face from CCTV with a baseball cap?
Generally we think CCTV cameras are a necessary tool in the fight against crime, but this is a step too far.
Whether we are living in a Big Brother state is for others to decide.
