THE decision by councils across the country to topple gravestones which they considered to be potentially dangerous was nothing short of municipal vandalism in the eyes of many, not least Cynthia Edwards, the Rotherham pensioner who has taken on her local council over the issue.
She gathered a 3,000 name petition and earned the support of her local MP John Healey and former local lad William Hague in a call for an end to the heartbreaking practice, which has left grieving relatives feeling helpless and impotent in the face o
f the action.

Now Cynthia is hoping that her local council will agree to stage a public inquiry into the issue. We hope so too. The move has caused so much anguish that it is vital that the action be openly scrutinised and justified.

Please look after this city park!
THE wraps are finally coming off Devonshire Green, the pocket park close to the centre of the city which is a great favourite with people who work, study and live in that area.

Though there is still some work to be completed, the green is proudly showing off its £1.6 million make-over...and it came just as the warm weather arrived and people were able to begin making the most of the spot.

Sheffield is justly proud of its green image and Devonshire Green is a welcome addition to our tally of open spaces and lush suburbs. We hope that people who appreciate the park now will look after it in the future.

Now all we need is a word from Delia on how to transform this lowly kitchen staple into something to impress your dinner party guests!
