WE could all take a leaf out of the city council's book and buy local whenever we can. For there is no doubt that this will help people on our own doorstep who may be finding difficulties making a living.
The idea comes from the ruling Lib Dem group who had dictated that the local authority should make it a priority to deal with local businesses wherever possible.

There is always the problem that some materials or services simply cannot be found within the immediate region. That will be an obstacle easily dealt with. More difficult will be when a local supplier is far more expensive than someone from elsewhere.

At that point the council will have to think long and hard to balance helping the local economy and providing value for the public's council taxes. We hope that common sense rather than dogma wins that battle.

Ambassadors are making city safer

CONGRATULATIONS to City Centre Ambassador Dave Abdi for the bravery he displayed when he went to the aid of police who arrested a man wanted for a sex attack.

He showed presence of mind when he recognised the man from photographs he had been shown and discreetly followed him until officers arrived at the scene.

As a result he has received a police commendation - a rare accolade for a civilian to receive.

This helps underline the fact that City Centre Ambassadors are carrying out a key role in helping to make Sheffield a safe place to visit.

In our hour of need!

THE nation's morals are now more in the hands of TV talk show hosts than the church, a new survey claims.

Where once people turned to their priest for guidance, they're now more likely seek Jeremy Kyle or Trisha.

Of course, in church you just get God and a few hymns. With Jeremy, you can move straight on to another great episode of 60 Minute Makeover!
