The result leaves the Owls six points away from safety, but a precious game in hand over 21st place Birmingham City could help them to narrow the gap in a fiercely-fought relegation battle.
Speaking after the loss, Wednesday's interim boss Neil Thompson claimed: "Everybody knows the mistakes we make, and it’s having that reaction to do something about it. We have, but we only did half a job today and got sucker punched in the second half - as we’ve had a few times this season.
“There’s no nail in a coffin yet because there’s point to play for, there are 14 games left, but we’ve got to fight and scrap like we did in the first half, not go into our shells like we did in the second half.”
The Owls will have an opportunity to bounce back on Wednesday evening, when they take on local rivals Rotherham United in a must-win game at Hillsborough.
