Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk explains why he didn't make more changes for Millwall clash after strong words at Wigan

The Owls boss made two changes to the side that crashed to a 2-1 defeat at the DW Stadium and he suggested the battered and bruised nature of his current outfit prevented more widespread switches.
One of the changes was enforced with fit-again Liam Palmer coming in for the injured Morgan Fox while Adam Reach came in for Sam Winnall. Midfielders Massimo Luongo and Kieran Lee missed out through injury and senior man Sam Hutchinson – deemed fit to play by Monk – was left out of the squad altogether.

And asked of the decision to make only two changes for Millwall, he said: “The squad is what it is. It’s not just about that.
“It’s obviously difficult when you’re picking teams and there’s obviously things that you’re not happy with. The fresh impetus of the new players coming in was much needed, with Fernando coming back.
“But the lads had the opportunity to go out there and show that the commitment and attitude can be there.

A dour encounter saw the two play-off hopefuls share the points in a clash that saw only two genuine chances created.
“It was a fair result,” Monk said. “It was quite an even game, but I was more looking at the attitude of my team today, the commitment.
“I didn’t see a team giving up and they tried to push all the way to the end. It’s something to build upon.”
