Marvin Johnson was back in Sheffield Wednesday colours on Tuesday as he turned out for the club’s U21s in a rout over Coventry City.

The Owls youngsters are having a great season so far, and a 4-0 victory in Coventry today took them to within four points of current Professional Development League leaders, Sheffield United.

‘MJ’, back in from the cold following the appointment of Danny Röhl, is being given a chance to show what he can do as he attempts to force his way into the German’s plans, and a 45-minute outing against the Sky Blues gave him an opportunity to pull on a Wednesday shirt for the first time since preseason.

His time on the field saw the Owls speed into a 3-0 lead by half time, with Luke Cook bagging a brace and Sean Fusire getting the other in a game where young Joey Phuthi was said to be causing all sorts of problems for the opponents. Johnson was replaced by Sam Reed at the break, no doubt thankful for a good runout, but Wednesday weren’t done yet.

Bailey Cadamarteri, of course, had to get in on the action as he made it four just after the hour mark, the teenage striker grabbing his 11th goals of the season in just his ninth outing - that’s half of all the goals that Neil Thompson’s side have scored all season.

The result sees them remain in third place ahead of next week’s visit of Crewe Alexandra, however they do have a game in hand on second-placed Birmingham City who are just two points ahead of them at this stage.

Wednesday’s U21s have been beaten just once this season so far, and have ambitions of winning the league after a tough 2022/23 campaign.
