So often the scourge of Sheffield United this season, VAR actually worked in their favour last night in their clash with West Ham at Bramall Lane.

Leading 1-0 thanks to Oli McBurnie’s earlier strike, United were hit with a sucker-punch when Robert Snodgrass came off the bench to net what everyone in the ground, and watching at home, thought was a late equaliser.

Then, VAR intervened and found a reason to rule it out; the ball had struck Declan Rice’s hand in the build-up to the goal. United saw the game out and moved up to fifth in the Premier League table.

And Dean Henderson appeared to give VAR the thumbs-up on this occasion, judging by his post-game tweet.

"I feel for David [Moyes] and the players,” his manager Chris Wilder said after the game.

“The same thing has happened to us a few times. But we would've been devastated if we'd have drawn that game.

"Soon as they scored, no one was looking at it but I felt for the opposition - it's the same moans and groans as we've had in the past.”
