CHESTERFIELD are set to sign veteran defender Kevin Austin from Swansea.
The 35-year-old centre back is ready to turn to his back on Swansea for regular first team football in League Two.

He had signed a one year extension on his contract in South Wales but Swans' boss Roberto Martinez has indicated he'd allow the ex-Leyton Orient, Lincoln City, Barnsley, Cambridge United and Bristol Rovers stopper to move on if an offer that looked likely to give him more games came along.

Austin has played over 400 league games and made a single international appearance for Trinidad and Tobago against Panama eight years ago.

Austin is the second experienced centre back brought in by manager Lee Richardson. He joins Robert Page at Saltergate.

Aaron Downes, set to miss the start of the season due to Australian Olympic duty, is the third man in that position on the staff while Hungarian Janos Kovacs' re-signing looks ever more unlikely in the wake of the Austin deal.
