BRIAN Laws hopes to have Sheffield Wednesday's first signing of the summer lined up for next week.
It is likely to be one of the midfield players from a Premier League club that he has been involved in talks about for some time.
"Yes, I have been discussing a long term loan and we are talking for the season," said the Owls boss.
"Certainly I want to have something concluded before we start our pre-season training so we are looking at getting something sorted next week."
He has been linked with Chelsea's England Under 20 midfielder Jack Cork - son of former Sheffield United striker Alan - who was on loan at Scunthorpe last season.
He is a player Wednesday checked on last season but it could be that Laws may be looking for someone with a bit more experience.
Wednesday have arranged another pre-season friendly and this will be at Stocksbridge Park Steels on Wednesday, July 23.

Ex-Owls skipper Nigel Pearson has been appointed new manager of Leicester City and has identified instant promotion back into The Championship as his target.
Pearson, 44, was named as Leicester's sixth manager in 16 months and takes charge of the club's first ever season in the third tier of English football.
"The club has gone through a very difficult period of its history but it's a fabulous opportunity for me," said Pearson, who left Southampton after keeping them up in The Championship last season - at Leicester's expense.
"I know about being at clubs where there is high expectation and I will deal with that," he said. "We need to deliver and we have to drive the club forward and I am looking forward to getting stuck into the job because there is a lot of scope for this club to redevelop.
The former Wednesday defender said he believes he needs to create a winning culture at the Walkers Stadium to turn the club around.
Chairman Milan Mandaric had made MK Dons boss Paul Ince his first choice but after being denied permission to speak to the former England captain he moved for Pearson.
Mandaric insisted Pearson had the will to achieve and last longer in the post than predecessors Rob Kelly, Nigel Worthington, Martin Allen, Gary Megson and Ian Holloway.
Mandaric said: "During the process of interviewing I met a lot of good and qualified people but from the first time I met Nigel I knew he was our man. His integrity, his presence and his knowledge of the game are second to none."
