BRIAN Laws says that defender Frank Simek will not be rushed back when Sheffield Wednesday report back for pre-season training next week.
The talented right-back missed the last five months of the season after being injured in the game at Crystal Palace on December 15.

His ankle injury required surgery and it has been a long process of rehabilitation.

"He'll be back with us but he'll be gradually eased in," said Wednesday manage Laws.

"He won't hit the ground running like everyone else.

"We certainly won't be rushing him, of that you can be sure.

"The intention is to point him towards the start of the season in August and we'll see how he goes over the next few weeks. But the lad has been out a long time and we won't rush things."

One report said that Simek, a USA international, could be a target for Aston Villa.

Ex-Owls boss Paul Sturrock has signed Colchester midfielder Karl Duguid on a two-deal at Plymouth.

we have signed another loan player, great. when barnsley have payed 1.2m for a striker, oh i 4got were a big club, never in a million years. wednesday should be looking at sheffield united how to be successful off the pitch. Their marketing of sheffield united is second to none, they have 2 clubs, 4 gyms, a hotel, and offices which are been let, and wednesday are still doing nothing to improve the finances of the club. they expect people to pay for higher season tickets and admission prices for a second rate team. am not 4 1 this season, rather spend my money else where and save my money for my family and go on holiday once a month then watchin that rubbish, no ambition and no way forward for the club concerning this board. oh yeah we have a new club shop, great.

I think that Wednesday's problem is that they dont actually have any assets in which to invest, most of assets they do have are more than likely tied into the debt they already have (and to be fair if you where a bank and saw that they had £27m of debt with little way of paying that back, would you want to give them more money)

I think what ruined your club was the over indulgence during your glory years where you had the likes of Carbone and Di Canio playing, yes these were great players but they also came with a great cost

the Blades have been prudent and the management have stuck to what they know (McCabe using the clubs funds in the property market etc)

I think that this season will be very interesting, with all the events over the past year (Robson etc) this will be really make or break for both clubs, at least you know Laws can find a great player in the loan market :)

First time I've agreed with a Blade in a long time, Good comment and true about the prudency of the United Board, at least they are united. Unlike our lot who must be the worst custodians of the Club in the last 50 years. Beg to differ in the matter of Di Canio and Carbone, they earned their corn, it was the likes of De Bilde, Vonk, Hinchcliffe and Sibon, all highly paid, that got us into debt, costing borrowed millions without producing the goods on the field. Carbone learned from this at Hillsborough and applied the same 'fleecing' at Bradford.

Nice to have a Blade on, who talks sense for once. Actually, I think the debt is £31m if interest owed to Allen & directors is added on, plus the so-called 'parked' debt.
I think we can learn a few things from United.. and Barnsley & Donny to be honest. We haven't much to look forward to. Just hope Laws keeps us up again & that a take-over eventually happens.
