South Yorkshire Police have closed the M1 between junction 36 and 37 due to an incident.

Motorway cameras show long queues after South Yorkshire Police deal with an incident on the busy motorway near Barnsley. National Highways Yorkshire tweeted at 4.10pm to reveal the M1 was closed in both directions.

They say they “expect delays to build quickly”. The nature of the incident has not been confirmed by South Yorkshire Police have been approached for comment. The incident is ongoing.
