Long delays expected following vehicle fire on Woodhead Pass

Traffic on the A628 Woodhead Pass is flowing at a reduced capacity in both directions after a HGV tanker fire between the A57 Mottram Moor at the Gun Inn traffic lights, Hollingworth and the B6105 Glossop Turn Off, Crowden.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue said the trailer was “well alight” when crews arrived at 4.50am, but the fire has since been put out. Police remain at the scene.

Hide AdHighways England tweeted: “Traffic is flowing both directions however at reduced capacity until the vehicle is recovered.
“Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit are managing the flow of traffic. We are en route to assist clear up.”
The road was temporarily closed in both directions, causing long traffic queues. Some motorists were diverted onto the A57 and B6105.
Transport for Greater Manchester said motorists should use the M62 for cross Pennine journeys.
