The UK will officially leave the European Union this Friday, January 31, and The Friendship pub in Stocksbridge is marking the historic day with a big bash.
The pub on Manchester Road has announced that its usual Friday happy hour will run all day, from noon till late, with customers able to double up on spirits for £1.50 so they can either raise a toast or drown their sorrows, depending on their political views.

Hide AdThere will also be a buffet and a DJ playing tunes from the 70s, when the UK joined the EU, to the modern day.
The pub chain Wetherspoons, whose founder Tim Martin was a vociferous pro-Brexit campaigner, has already announced it is slashing the price of 10 drinks from Friday in what it has dubbed the ‘let’s stay friends’ offer.
