£10.2 million of improvements to be made to Sheffield tower blocks
and live on Freeview channel 276
The work follows publication of the Hackitt report into the Grenfell tower block fire disaster which all local authorities in the UK have been reviewing.
As a result, councils continue to review their policies and procedures regarding the safety of residents, particularly in high rise tower blocks.

Hide AdIn a report, council officers said: “The review completed by Sheffield Council identified a number of areas for potential improvement, particularly for high risk assets including 24 tower blocks and 30 sheltered schemes. The opportunity will also be taken to and improve the internal environment of these buildings through a refresh of communal areas.”
The work includes installing high pressure misting systems, fire alarm systems with the ability to communicate with individual flats, new emergency lighting system, ‘silver’ standard new surface treatments in communal areas, new fire doors and screens in communal areas.
