The Percy Pud 10k is the latest regional casualty of the pandemic, which has seen the postponement of a number of annual fundraising events in recent months.
But organisers, the Steel City City Striders, are still hoping to raise a bundle for local charities with the creation of a specialised Percy Pud face-mask, which they’re selling to raise funds.

"The Percy Pud 10k usually means we end up with around £6,500 to divide between local charities, including the NHS, Weston Park, and the Children’s Hospital, so we were keen to still do something to show our support, and help them to raise some much-needed funds.
"We’ve designed a Percy Pud face-mask, and £1 from the sale of every mask will go to these charities.
"We’ve had orders for around 40 so far, which are being created at The Printroom in Hillsborough.

A statement from Percy Pud race director, Richard Dunk, earlier this week read: ‘In view of the uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, Steel City Striders have decided to cancel this year’s Percy Pud 10k, scheduled for December 6.
‘The committee feel strongly that the health and safety of runners, volunteers, supporters, local residents and friends and families, should not be put at risk by holding such a large event at this time.
‘This is an event we look forward to hosting year on year, and we are proud of how it has developed into such an iconic event over its 28 year history, plus our achievements as a charity fundraiser.
