A man has been arrested after a mass brawl involving 50 people erupted in Doncaster town centre.

Police were called to East Laith Gate in Doncaster town centre yesterday evening after reports of a fight near to Shabir’s restaurant.

Eyewitnesses reported a large police presence in the area and that up to 50 people were involved.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Officers were called to East Laith Gate in Doncaster yesterday evening to reports of a fight.

“A 41-year-old man from Doncaster was arrested on suspicion of section 47 assault.

“An 18-year-old Rotherham man suffered minor facial injuries during the incident.”

A Section 47 Assault is when actual bodily harm has been caused.
