Traffic in Chesterfield was gridlocked after an emergency incident closed a major road through the town.

Police shut the A61 between the B&Q and Tesco Extra roundabouts. Drivers coming down the bypass from Sheffield were diverted on to Lockoford Road or the A619.

Police, ambulance and Fire Service vehicles were all in attendance at about 5.30pm on Sunday March 5. The dual carriageway runs through a deep cutting before emerging at a roundabout which connects with the main route to the M1.
