'Sheffield's just getting worse' - shocked residents react to latest stabbing

A 41-year-old man was stabbed twice in the leg during the early hours of this morning, Friday, December 13, on Southey Hill, in Southey.
He was taken to hospital where he required surgery but police, who were called to the scene at 4.55am, said his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Hide AdThe street was closed this morning near the junction with Dryden Road as police carried out enquiries but the cordon was lifted by 11am.
Residents described it as a 'quiet' road where they said there had been no trouble in recent years and they felt safe living.
One woman, who did not give her name, said: "I've lived on this street for 10 years and it's always been quiet round here.
"We've never had any problems in all that time but Sheffield's just getting worse."

Hide AdAnother woman, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “I’ve been here for 13 years with no problems at all. It’s awful to hear what’s happened this morning but I feel absolutely safe living here.”
A third woman said: “I’m shocked by what’s happened but I’ve lived here for 42 years and during that time there have been little disturbances here and there but nothing for the last 10 years or more.
“It's been really lovely round here and this doesn’t make me feel unsafe.”
One man said he only became aware that something was going on at around 7am this morning when a neighbour rang to ask what was happening and he looked out of his window to see blue lights flashing.

Hide Ad“It’s quite a shock when it happens on your doorstep but it’s not a regular occurrence. I’ve lived here for 25 years and I’ve always found it alright," he said.
“It’s been better than I expected it to be, actually, because S5 had a bit of a reputation. You get the odd idiot round here every now and again but it’s the same everywhere.”
