Police officers suffered ‘broken hands and fingers’ as they kept Sheffield safe on Mad Friday

One officer had their hand broken and another sustained broken fingers during what is thought to be the booziest night of the year on Friday (December 20).
Over the course of the weekend, another officer sustained a bump to the head.

Hide AdIt is understood the officers were injured while attempting to make arrests or detain offenders in the city.
But district commander for Sheffield, Stuart Barton, said that while the incidents were ‘disappointing’, the three officers were ‘in good spirits’.
He said: “The city was packed, but that’s nothing out of ordinary and we prepare for this time of year with extra staff.
“While I’d say there hasn’t been a decrease in crime and anti-social behaviour at this time of year, police have a better working relationship with other agencies in the city, such as door staff, than ever before.”
