Detective Chief Inspector Mark Oughton, of South Yorkshire Police, said officers faced ‘physical obstructions’ as they battled to reach 35-year-old Marcus Ramsay as he lay dying in the street.
Officers had to clear a route for ambulances to reach the dad-of-two.
He said: “Police and ambulance crews were alerted to the stabbing of Marcus Ramsay in Horninglow Road at 12.33am on Saturday, August 8.

“Mr Ramsay received emergency medical assistance from a specially trained police officer while additional resources worked tirelessly to restore public order, disperse crowds and clear a route for waiting ambulance crews.
“I estimate that around 100 people were congregated in Horninglow Road in the early hours of Saturday, and I am certain that many will hold vital information in to the altercation which led to Mr Ramsay’s death.”
Jackie Cole, Head of Operations for South Yorkshire at Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust, said: “Our first resources arrived at a rendezvous point close to Horninglow Road in Sheffield within five minutes of the initial 999 call being made.

“We worked closely with police colleagues at the scene to reach patients as quickly and safely as possible.”
