The Violence Reduction Unit said: “If successful, the programme of work will identify the locations that experience violence within South Yorkshire.
“Each identified area will receive patrols each day from a dedicated team of police officers. The regular hi-visibility patrols will provide intense engagement time between the police officers and the community.
“The aim of this programme is to rapidly reduce the levels of violent crime within these areas by targeted work.

It added: “One dedicated policing team will coordinate patrolling all of the areas each day. This is in addition to usual neighbourhood policing activity that communities will be used to seeing. These will be existing officers from the force.”
