Robert Coyne, prosecuting, said the train developed a fault and had to stop and while trying to fix this staff were alerted to the sound of breaking glass.

Mr Coyne said the train was repaired and went to Mexborough station where the defendant and his partner got off.
Samples of blood were taken from the train, according to Mr Coyne, after it went to Doncaster and they were linked to Edwards.
The defendant told police he intended to smash the panel and accepted it was not an emergency but when the train stopped he panicked because he had to get his partner to an appointment.
