A TEENAGER told a court he dressed in a ski mask and armed himself with a hammer before lying in wait to rob a girl on an isolated railway line.
Giving evidence in his trial at Sheffield Crown Court, the 17-year-old said he knew a pal was going to meet the 13-year-old girl. He lurked behind bushes as the pair walked on to the tracks at Pitsmoor and started to have sex.

He said: "I approach
ed the girl. I was wearing dark tracky bottoms, a black t-shirt and brown jacket. I was also wearing a black ski mask. I was intending to rob her."

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said he demanded her phone.

"When she said she hadn't a phone, I unzipped my jacket and pulled out the hammer."

He said he searched her jacket , stole her phone, then ran off and traded the mobile in at a phone shop.

Earlier jurors were told the boy's DNA was found on the victim's jacket and vest.

He told police he couldn't explain it but later told officers he'd visited prostitutes beside the railway line and she may have laid her jacket there.

The youth denies four counts of rape.

The trial continues.
