REMEMBER all the fuss made about this woman being discovered when she internet broadcast a 'tour' of 21 gigs from her home basement in London's Tooting?
Well, last month the lovely Sandi Thom issued her second album, The Pink & The Lily, almost two years since the release of the single I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (With Flowers In My Hair) and resultant million-selling debut album Smile… It Confuses People.
Since then the Scottish singer/songwriter has lapped the world and learned new tricks. And album two sees her tackling topical subjects such as global warming and corporate career paths as well as more jovial subjects like partying too hard. The song Saturday Night emerged after her manager thought she was drinking too much.
This classic yet contemporary sounding record is drenched in nostalgia with a recurrent theme of less complicated times when life was easier.
First single, The Devil's Beat, has an upbeat tempo but is about the subject currently troubling the entire world, global warming.
She has just completed an acoustic tour across the UK where she played half of the set with her band and half as a 'one-woman band' complete with bass drum, guitar, harmonica and voice.
Next Thursday Sandi is at Plug in Sheffield with her band and Paddy Milner and Jonjo Feather in support.
