RICHARD Hawley, Little Man Tate and The Long Blondes – depending on bassist Dorian's recovery from a suspected stroke - have been confirmed for the Virgin Mobile Union stage line-up at next month's V festivals.
Alongside a mixed bag that includes Young Knives, Guillemots, Sia, Roots Manuva and the awful Goldie Looking Chain, the bill seeks to showcase "freshly squeezed talent alongside some old faces making a return as solo artists".

V happens at Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park, Stafford, over the weekend of August 16-17. Major acts include Stereophonics, Muse, The Prodigy and Lenny Kravitz – while Reverend & The Makers bolster Sheffield's contingent.

Cash man picks Grapes

THOSE WagonWheelMedia people pull off something of a coup with their monthly Americana Night on Sunday by taking US singer/songwriter Bob Cheevers to The Grapes.

A multi award winning songwriter, Bob was asked personally by Johnny Cash to support him on what proved to be the Man in Black's final tour.

Bob will be joined by sideman David MacNeill, with support from local singer/songwriter Julian Jones, also of Acoustic Angels.

Texas-based Cheevers boasts an eclectic mix of rootsy blues and a touch of folk and country. He tours latest record Fion's World.
