AS their teammates celebrated, cup heroes Nick Fenton and Drewe Broughton were having a little argument after Rotherham United's Carling Cup triumph over Southampton - but it was all good-natured!
Each of them was laying claim to the first goal in the 3-1 win over The Championship side - defender Fenton reckoned it was his whilst striker Broughton had it down for himself.
The dispute arose because Fenton's effort was cleared by a defender stationed on the goalline but in the immediate scramble, Broughton forced the ball in and ran away in celebration.
At the time, no one was quite sure if Fenton's effort was over the line and the ball had been despatched back into the net by Broughton when the referee's assistant flagged.
Initially, Broughton was credited with it but a check in the ref's room at half-time had ref's assistant Paul Thompson confirming that the ball had gone well over the line from the initial effort by Fenton (it was in mid-air when it was cleared).
"I know it was mine, it was well over the line and I'm claiming it, he's not having it" chuckled central defender Fenton, once with Doncaster Rovers and signed this season from Grimsby. "Drewe was trying to say it was his but I know it wasn't and we were having a laugh and some banter about it. As a defender, you don't get too many so you need all the ones you can get," added Fenton who got three for Grimsby last season, one of them against Rotherham. As for Broughton, he still has his first goal for the Millers - rather than his first double - having scored the third and final goal.
"I thought I got two and I've been trying to claim that first one - perhaps we can still sort it out when we get back to training," he laughed.
"But it is just great to be off the mark with that first goal anyway and there's no doubt about the third goal. I didn't have a real pre-season and only now am I starting to feel I am 100 per cent."
Rotherham are the only local club (and only League Two side) left in the Carling Cup and await the fourth round draw for the last 16 on Saturday lunchtime.
