Sheffield’s Superintendent for Neighbourhoods and Partnerships, Delphine Waring, said: “We will see many of Sheffield’s businesses reopen their doors to the public, as the country takes tentative steps towards what we can only describe as our ‘new normal’.
“For so many business owners, employers and employees this is a huge moment, one I am sure is a mix of excitement and anxiety. There will be relief to be once again ‘back in business’, but there are also significant new challenges to face.

“It is in all of our interests that our city centre and shopping centres flourish again, that they see people shopping ‘offline’, albeit in a socially distanced and safe manner.
“We have been working closely with our partners throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and they have clear plans in place in relation to public safety in the city centre.”
She added: “It is important to acknowledge that things will not be strictly business as usual from today.

“My request to the people of Sheffield is that you are patient, that you support the people behind the tills, stocking the shelves and on the shop floor.
“Please respect and listen to the security guards or stewards keeping an eye on the queues; they are there to ensure your safety as we continue to face the Covid-19 health crisis.
“You will see more of our officers in key shopping areas. We are there to support businesses and shoppers alike, please be reassured by our presence on your streets and on the roads.
