Six Covid-19 deaths recorded in South Yorkshire as national death count surpasses 80,000

In Sheffield hospitals, three more Covid-19 patients have died, according to the latest daily statistics. This brings the total deaths to 860.
Figures released by NHS England on February 17 also show that Doncaster recorded two more deaths, bringing the total fatalities to 705.

Hide AdIn Barnsley, the total deaths have reached 566 with one new fatality but Rotherham's total deaths remain 542 as no new death was recorded.
Nationally, a further 522 people who tested for the deadly virus have died in hospital in England, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals to 80,115.
NHS England said the patients were aged between 24 and 103. All except 20, aged between 33 and 91, had known underlying health conditions.
The deaths were between April 2020 and February 16 2021, with the majority being on or after February 12.

Hide AdThere were 60 other deaths reported with no positive Covid-19 test result.
The NHS England data also shows a total of 1,595,410 jabs were given to people in London between December 8 and February 16, including 1,531,349 first doses and 64,061 second doses.
This compares with 2,576,582 first doses and 73,080 second doses given to people in the Midlands, a total of 2,649,662.
The breakdown for the other regions is:
East of England – 1,608,086 first doses and 60,920 second doses, making 1,669,006 in total.

Hide AdMeanwhile, a total of 13,891,042 Covid-19 vaccinations took place in England between December 8 and February 16, according to provisional NHS England data, including first and second doses, which is a rise of 315,797 on the previous day’s figures.
Of this number, 13,395,338 were the first dose of a vaccine, a rise of 312,669 on the previous day, while 495,704 were a second dose, an increase of 3,128.
