People have been told to stay at home and only go out for food, medicine and other essentials, to work if they cannot do so from home or for exercise once daily.
Anyone caught flouting the new regulations could be fined £60 for a first offence or arrested.
South Yorkshire Police would not say how many alleged breaches had been reported or whether any fines had yet been issued.
