A GRIEVING Sheffield teenager has been praised for her bravery - after taking to the stage for a starring role in a musical the same day as her uncle's funeral.
In true tradition that 'the show must go on' Lucy Patrick, from Millhouses, appeared at Abbeydale Picture Palace for the opening night of Abbeydale Youth Theatre's production of Me and My Girl just hours after the funeral of her uncle.

The 15-year-old, a member of the theatre group for the last two years, was playing one of the lead parts - Lady Diss - and put in an emotional performance watched by family and friends.

Lucy's aunt Paula Irving said: "It's not been an easy time for Lucy, who only a few months ago had to deal with the death of her granny but then also had to cope with yet another tragic loss of one of her uncles. All this was during rehearsals.

"But Lucy showed outstanding courage and determination and, after attending her uncle's funeral, went on stage for the opening night.

"We are all very proud of her."

The show - which includes songs Lambeth Walk and Leaning On A Lamppost - ran for four nights.

The theatre group is now preparing for its Christmas show.
