A MOTORIST killed when his car smashed into a street sign collapsed at the wheel and lost control, police have revealed.
Lee Dodsworth, aged 38, from Hackenthorpe, was driving his black Volvo on Drake House Crescent, Waterthorpe, when the collision happened just before 5pm on Monday.

It is believed Mr Dodsworth collapsed, causing the car to leave the road and smash
into a street sign, near the junction with Moss Way, officers said.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to the Northern General Hospital but later died.

Flowers have been laid at the scene by family and friends.

Officers have found no evidence to suggest the speed of the vehicle was a factor.
