WEDNESDAY'S spending appears to be an end for the foreseeable future after the loan signing of right-back Tony McMahon from Middles-brough.
Manager Brian Laws has made it clear that no further loan signings are imminent and that he is ready to continue with a relatively small squad.
It seems that new arrivals are unlikely before the transfer deadline on September 1 - unless another injury crisis forces a rethink.
Laws probably would have liked to add a forward to his squad after Akpo Sodje was ruled out for up to two months ,but the team chief accepted that financial constraints ruled that out.
But Laws and the board have reacted swiftly to the depletion of an already-thin defence by Richard Hinds' injury, finding wage funds to bring in McMahon for a month and possibly for a longer loan.
Laws explained: "This was an emergency. I'd like to have strengthened more, but we're all working within the parameters that we have.
"There's no change, unless there's another emergency.."
Hinds is out for around three months and Frankie Simek is thought to be many weeks away from a comeback.
Laws diplomatically is not being drawn on the takeover issue, but clearly does not appear to be anticipating a sudden influx of cash.
Throughout the Geoff Sheard saga, Laws has taken the neutral stance of accepting that he operates within current financial limits unless something changes.
It is now a week since Sheard accepted that the ball was in his court. The club and major shareholders remain willing sellers but have always sought legal proof of his funding. They have also recently suggested a meeting with his mystery backer.
It seems clear that the Owls are still waiting for the Sheard camp to come up with a conclusion to a saga that has dragged on for six months,
McMahon is set for a debut against Preston at Hillsborough tomorrow. The Owls could also have Marcus Tudgay back.
