ONE of the heroes of Doncaster's flood recovery has been named Council Worker of the Year at the Local Government Channel Awards.
Pat Hagan, Doncaster Council's neighbourhood manager for the Toll Bar area, went head-to-head with council workers from all over the country and won the Care and Commitment Award, Pat was nominated because of his work during the floods last year in
which he dedicated much of his time to the residents of the stricken estate.

He said: "It's an unbelievable honour to have won a local government award and I would like to thank everyone for voting for me.

"People ask if this has been the most difficult and demanding point of my career but it's actually been the highlight. All of the long hard days have paid off and it's great to see Toll Bar finally flourishing."

Even the Queen has recognised Pat's hard work - he was announced as an MBE winner last month.

Mayor Martin Winter said: "I am delighted that Pat has been named Council Worker of the Year. The floods were a huge disaster for Doncaster but Pat is a shining example of the countless employees who gave up so much of their time to help with the floods. It's thanks to them that Doncaster has been able to make such a positive recovery."

Doncaster Council managing director Paul Hart said he was immensely proud to have an employee like Pat.
