EUROVISION song contest winner Katrina Leskanich will headline Doncaster's gay pride festival next month.
The former singer of the group Katrina and the Waves will top the six-hour bill on the music stage at the event in the market place on Sunday August 17.

Katrina and the Waves had their greatest chart success with the worldwide hit Walking on Sunshine in 1985 and hold the record for the greatest winning margin at any Eurovision Song Contest with their victory in 1997 with the UK’s entry Love Shine A Light.

Katrina will take to the stage following a line-up including local performers as well as acts flown in especially for the event from Ireland and Iceland.

The music stage will be one of the highlights of the event, which follows on from Doncaster Pride last summer - the first gay pride to be held in South Yorkshire. Stage Manager Annette Ramsay said: “We’re still putting the finishing touches to the line up and we have more big news to come but we’re thrilled to bits Katrina has agreed to perform at Doncaster Pride.”

Pride Chairman Trevor Jones said: “We’re really pleased with our line-up - it shows how the event is growing and it’s great that in only our second year we have been able to go for such great acts. We promised a great party, we said this would be something special and we plan to deliver on those promises.”

The line-up also includes tribute performer The Kylie Experience, Yorkshire based performers Ti Amero and Tobias, and Icelandic rockers Sign.

Trevor added: “So much is coming together right now and every day we’re getting confirmation on something or other.

“We’ve got a fantastic amount still to do but rest assured there is plenty more big news to come. We’re now finalising arrangements on a number of things including more performers, the set, stage arrangements and the market.”

Other confirmed performers include Patchwork Grace, Female rapper MCMC, Drag duo Miss Bobbie Dazzler and Miss Whiplash, My Sobriquet, rapper MC Envy, and Cavali.
